Safe Kids Nebraska Child Care Transportation Training
Regulations require mandatory child passenger safety training for child care centers who transport children. These regulations took effect May 20, 2013. The Safe Kids Nebraska Child Care Transportation Training is the only approved course to satisfy the following regulation requirements:
Child Care Centers - 391 NAC 3-006.10C
School Aged Only Centers- 391 NAC 4-006.09C
Preschool Programs- 391 NAC 5-006.09B.

New employees have 90 days to complete the transportation training

Employees will have to complete the training every 5 years

Drivers and/or certain staff* for any child care program that holds a provider license from the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) involved in transporting children must attend and successfully complete the Safe Kids Nebraska Child Care Transportation Training

Home child cares are not required to take the Safe Kids Nebraska Child Care Transportation Training but are encouraged to if they transport children..

It is a 3-hour training with a pass/fail hands on component.

Trainings must be taught by child passenger safety technicians (CPSTs) who have been approved as a Lead Trainer by DHHS/Safe Kids Nebraska through the application process.

Child care providers needing the training must contact a Lead Trainer in their area to set up the training. DHHS and Safe Kids Nebraska are not coordinating these trainings.

Trainings
Trainings may be offered by individual child passenger safety technicians who are Lead Trainers or these Lead Trainers may work with local organizations such as health departments to provide the training.
Training Fees
Training fees and schedules are set by those offering the trainings.
Successful
Completion
Individuals that successfully complete the training will be provided a certificate of completion for 3 clock hours of continuing education. The certificate is valid for 5 years.
NOTE:
When a child care center contracts for transportation services, the Center is still responsible for
insuring all the transportation regulations are followed. The child care provider must have one
trained staff for each contracted vehicle used per trip. This includes buses.

Attendees who successfully complete this course are not certified as child passenger safety technicians (CPST). Attendees are encouraged to use and distribute the educational materials that are available from the trainings for general awareness purposes to parents and caregivers.
